Patrick Mahomes looked outstanding once again, throwing for 291 yards and a passer rating of 101.9.
The Chiefs two young wideouts Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy also impressed; Rice recorded 7 receptions totaling 103 yards, and Worthy made 2 receptions for 43 yards and two touchdowns in his debut.
Defensively the Chiefs were able to contain the high-powered Ravens offense to 20 points, coming up with key stops that helped seal the victory. Cornerback Jaylen Watson recorded 11 combined tackles, while star defensive tackle Chris Jones recorded his first sack of the season in the team’s opener.
The Chiefs were able to squeeze out a victory in the final play of the game with an Isaiah Likely touchdown overturned due to his left toe being out of bounds.
“When they say it is a game of inches, it might be shorter than that.” Head Coach Andy Reid said in a post game conference.
After an offseason of uncertainty, the Bengals struggled in their season opener, losing to the Patriots 16-10. Quarterback Joe Burrow threw for 164 yards and no touchdowns against New England.
With question marks surrounding the two star wideouts Tee Higgins and Ja’Marr Chase going into the season, the Bengals can only hope that their highly-talented offense can turn things around in week two.
Higgins is currently listed as questionable and is suffering from a hamstring injury, sidelining him from the Bengals’ season opener. In the midst of a contract dispute with the Bengal’s front office, the public questioned whether or not Jamar Chase would participate in the week one opener. Chase recorded 6 receptions for 62 yards in his season debut.
Both teams look for better performances as they face off in Kansas City on Sept. 15 at 3:25 p.m. CT.
