KC Royals to start streaming games through MLB platform

The Kansas City Royals are once again changing how fans can stream their
games for the upcoming season.
Last year, fans watched Royals games through a subscription to the FanDuel Sports
Network. The network’s parent company, Main Street Sports, has faced financial issues since initially filing for bankruptcy in 2023, prompting six teams—including the Royals—to terminate their contracts.
This season, the team is shifting its broadcasts directly under Major League
Baseball. Fans can now stream every regular-season Royals game for $99 per year
through the MLB’s platform, Royals.TV.
Royals President of Business Operations Cullen Maxey said the move should provide more stability after last season’s uncertainty, noting, “Major League Baseball has developed an experienced team to help teams locally launch and run their own sports networks.”
The decision also aligns with a broader league trend. With TV revenue serving as
one of the largest income sources for many teams, the MLB appears to be increasingly interested in bringing all local broadcast rights in-house. The Sports Business Journal reports that this consolidation could become even more important as a new collective bargaining agreement approaches.
For fans who choose not to subscribe to Royals.tv, 10 games, including Opening Day,
will air for free on KCTV5.
