Team USA shines in Milan: A golden two weeks at the 2026 Winter Olympics

The 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina is officially in the books, and for Team USA, it was a two-week run that fans won’t forget anytime soon. The United States finished second overall in the medal standings behind Norway, bringing home 33 medals—12 gold, 12 silver, and 9 bronze. From record-breaking performances to overtime thrillers, Team USA delivered big moments on the world stage.
Freestyle skiing set the tone early. Elizabeth Lemley powered her way to gold in women’s moguls, Alex Ferreira dominated the men’s halfpipe, and the U.S. added another gold in the mixed aerials team event. On the alpine side, Breezy Johnson raced to victory in the women’s downhill, while Mikaela Shiffrin once again proved why she’s one of the greatest in the sport, winning gold in the women’s slalom.
There were surprises, too. Elana Meyers Taylor captured gold in the women’s monobob, adding another incredible chapter to her Olympic career. On the speed skating oval, Jordan Stolz stole the spotlight with two gold medals and two Olympic records,blazing to victory in the 500-meter and 1,000-meter events.
Figure skating brought more magic, as Alysa Liu earned gold in the women’s singles competition. Team USA also topped the podium in the mixed team event.
A defining story of the Olympics Games also came on the ice. In dramatic fashion, both the U.S. men’s and women’s hockey teams defeated Canada in overtime to win gold. Megan Keller scored the golden goal for the women, marking their third Olympic gold medal. On the men’s side, Jack Hughes delivered the overtime winner, securing the program’s first gold medal since the “Miracle on Ice” in 1980.
