“It felt just like, I guess just like super awesome because I was here last semester and we weren’t as successful so it just felt really good to like finally see us play together and come together as a team,” player Reese Ramsey said.

For a B team, winning a title like this isn’t something that happens often.

“In my time playing at KU, B team has never won a conference tournament or a regional tournament, that I remember,” Volleyball Club President Megan Hoover said. “So it was really awesome to see them compete at such a high level this past weekend because it was awesome just to play. We only had a couple of practices so to just see them play that well was really cool.”

Now the team is carrying that momentum forward as they prepare for their first away tournament of the season — the D2 Crossover in Springfield, Missouri.

“I think like traveling to tournaments can like shift our mindset a little bit, and it’s gonna kind of like we’re gonna turn on. It’s gonna be like game time,” player Heidi Stauber said.

While B teams are often seen as secondary, KU’s B team is proving that they can compete at a high level.

“I think a lot of times, people can look at B teams as being like a second team, but really both of our teams are super competitive here at KU and at a lot of other schools so I think it’s awesome to see just our own club win a tournament with such good competition even though they are a B team,” Hoover said.

With key tournaments still ahead, including conference championships and nationals, the team has more chances to prove that they belong at the top.
