About KUJH

Broadcast by students, for students!

Welcome to KUJH-TV and our Fall 2024 season. Our show focuses on delivering reliable, interesting, and informative news to Lawrence, Kansas, and its surrounding communities. KUJH operates on the combined efforts of two classes offered by the University of Kansas School of Journalism, JMC 552 and 620. We take pride in lending a hand to our young journalists so they may develop skills applicable to all facets of a working broadcast station. We’re excited to provide our audience with our content this season, so get to know us below!

Meet the Staff!

Ryn Drummond (she/her)

Lead Producer

I’m a junior from Tulsa, Oklahoma, majoring in multimedia journalism with a minor in political science. Along with KUJH, I am a producer for Good Morning Indian Country, a reporter for the Eudora Times, and an ambassador for the William Allen White School of Journalism. When I’m not in the newsroom, I love working out, listening to music, and hanging out with friends. I am super excited to continue working for KUJH and continuing to grow my skills.

August Cooney (they/them)

Social Producer, Web and Graphics

I live in Kansas City, Missouri with my four pets, a dog and three cats. I have been involved with Multimedia Crossroads, the University Daily Kansan and KUJH News during my time on campus. I enjoy culture and entertainment. I frequently take part in local events and enjoy being involved with my community. I have a minor in Sociology which pushes my drive and passion for covering social issues. I am currently the Social Media Producer for KUJH News.

Daniel Steck (they/them)

Web Producer, Graphics and Social

I’m a senior from Wichita, studying journalism, political science and entrepreneurship. As a journalist I’ve worked in reporting, editorial and production roles for the University Daily Kansan, including creating new workflows and S.O.P. as News Editor. This is my first semester with KUJH, where I’m excited to be producing our website and graphics! Outside of journalism, I’m incredibly passionate about specialty coffee and building community around it. After I graduate in May 2025 I hope to write more about local business and community issues, while working in coffee!

Brady Bourjaily (he/him)

Associate Producer

I am currently a senior at KU studying Multimedia Journalism and Mass Communications. I plan to enter the world of Broadcast Television post grad, specifically pursuing a career in Sports Broadcasting. and  For the past two years I have worked at Rock Chalk Video, a department focused  on the production of live sports for both television as well as the audience. Through this I have learned a ton about what goes into a live production as well as how to effectively shoot and edit footage. Along with this, this semester I will be working for KSNT in Topeka as a Multimedia Reporting Intern. I have also been a part of multiple shows through our media crossroads program such as Take a Side and Good Evening KU Sports. Being from Chicago, I am a huge Bears fan and love spending my Sundays watching football with my friends. This is my first semester with KUJH and I’m looking forward to it!

Caleb Kalcich (he/him)

Multimedia Journalist

I’m a junior at KU from Jones, Oklahoma and I have a strong passion for sports. I’m majoring in Sports Media and Sports Management. I broadcast games for KJHK, the student-run radio station, and write for the University Daily Kansan. I’m striving to become a national sportscaster one day.

Charley-Ann Ortiz (she/her)

Multimedia Journalist

I am from Wichita, working towards a major in Multimedia Journalism and a minor in Business with an end goal of working in sports media. I have created segments for production shows at the J-school, including Jayhawk Jukebox and KUJH, and I have been a social media manager for a restaurant in Wichita for three years.  I am thrilled for the opportunities and challenges this semester will bring!

Emily Sutter (she/her)

Sports Director

I’m a junior from Omaha, Nebraska, studying Sports Media with a minor in Spanish, returning to KUJH News for my second year. I gained experience in the J–School producing Good Morning KU Sports, being on air for GMKU, and am a current member of Playmakers. Outside of KUJH, I like to exercise, hang out with friends, watch KU basketball, and give campus tours as a student ambassador. I am excited to continue growing my broadcasting skills, and hope to become a sideline sports reporter after graduation!

Lauren Richey (she/her)

Multimedia Journalist

I am from Olathe, dual majoring in sports media and multimedia journalism with a minor in sports management. This year I will be producing Playmakers and I’ll be working as a reporter for KUJH. In my free time, you can find me in the gym or at any sporting event. My hopes post-grad are to work in sports as a reporter/analyst, and I look forward to all the experiences this year will bring!

Kameron Macrorie (she/her)

News Anchor, Multimedia Journalist

I’m studying Multimedia Journalism and am so excited to return to KUJH for my second year! I am from Olathe and had the opportunity to spend this past summer with KMBC 9 in Kansas City, learning from talented reporters and anchors and developing my own reporting skills. After this experience, I am returning to KUJH as a more dedicated and confident reporter. Upon graduation in May 2025, I plan to venture beyond the Midwest and work at a news station in the South.

Kara Lyons (she/her)

Anchor, Multimedia Journalist

I’m a junior from Highlands Ranch, Colorado majoring in multimedia journalism with a focus in sports media and broadcasting and minoring in sports management. I’ve been an athlete my whole life and I’m continuing my athletic career as a collegiate rower for the KU rowing team. I have worked on the Media Crossroads sports news show, Playmakers, so far; this is my first semester on KUJH and I’m eager to be a part of this staff!

Kelly Rowe (she/her)

Multimedia Journalist

I am a junior from Leawood, double majoring in Multimedia and Sports Media Journalism with a minor in Business. I am currently working as a student video assistant with Rock Chalk Video in the Kansas Athletics Department. I have aspirations of working in sports media in the future and this will be my first semester working with KUJH. I am excited for the opportunities that this semester will bring!

Francesca Onofrio (she/her)

News Anchor, Multimedia Journalist

I am a senior from the city of Chicago, double majoring in Multimedia Journalism and in English, with a concentration in creative writing. I am excited to be returning for my second semester of KUJH, but my involvement started my first year as an on-air talent for Good Morning KU and assisting on KUJH. I am currently interning at KSNT 27 in Topeka. I also studied global media during my sophomore spring semester in Rome, Italy. In my free time, I enjoy cooking, exploring coffee shops and spending time with my dog, Adler.

Lindsay Ryan (she/her)

Multimedia Journalist

My name is Lindsay Ryan and I am double majoring in sports media and multimedia journalism with a minor in sport management. I have produced Good Morning KU Sports for two semesters while technical directing several other Media Crossroads shows. This year I will be co-producing Playmakers and working for the KU Club Hockey team as a rink-side reporter.

Michael D’Arcy (he/him)

Sports Multimedia Journalist, Sports Anchor

I’m studying Multimedia Journalism and I’m so exited to join the KUJH team this semester! I’ve been blessed with many opportunities such as covering the NBA, NFL Draft and Super Bowl Media week. I work a variety of jobs in the sports industry for a few different companies including the Kansas City Chiefs, Sports Radio 810, and Bleacher Report. I am thrilled to be taking on a new role with KUJH Sports!

Mily Favella (she/her)

Sports Director

I am a senior from Dallas, studying Sports Media Journalism with a minor in Sports Management. I am eager to continue sharing my passion for sports through storytelling and highlighting voices lost in the crowd. I’m ecstatic to be a part of KUJH for a second semester and I can’t wait to see what the semester holds!

Prescott Deckinger (he/him)

Multimedia Journalist

I’m a third-year student from Wichita majoring in Sports Media and Society. This is my first semester with KUJH, but I have worked with Media Crossroads on Good Morning KU. I’m also a member of KJHK, a student-run radio station. During the past three summers, I’ve called over 70 games for the Derby Twins, a summer collegiate baseball team based out of Derby, Kansas. Outside of academics, I enjoy sports activities, adventure, and the occasional adrenaline rush. I aspire to have a successful career in broadcasting during my professional career.

Ryan Karpman (he/him)

Multimedia Journalist

I’m Ryan Karpman and I’m a junior at KU. Originally from San Diego, I feel lucky and blessed to have the opportunities that I’ve had here in the journalism school. I’ve been able to broadcast for both KJHK and GMKU Sports, as well as PA announce for the Rim Rock Classic and KU Relays. This year, I’m taking over play-by-play duties for the KU Hockey team and am excited to travel with the team and work with my fellow broadcasters.

Savannah Meier (she/her)

News Anchor, Multimedia Journalist

I’m originally from Tampa, Florida growing up dancing, performing and having a creative passion, I found myself learning more about journalism and my passion of informing others in a creative setting. I’m looking forward to being a part of KUJH for a second year while studying multimedia journalism with a minor in sports management. I’m currently a Multimedia Journalist at KSNT 27 News, gathering information and producing stories for Northeast Kansas. I have also been a part of Media Crosswords during my time at KU, anchoring GMKU and GEKU and working in the newsroom.

Sydney Clark (she/her)

News Anchor, Multimedia Journalist

I’m a senior from Kansas City, Missouri majoring in Multimedia Journalism and minoring in Sport Management. Previously with KUJH, I served as production assistant, but this will be my first semester as an multimedia journalist and anchor. Outside of KUJH, I have been heavily involved within Media Crossroads, formally as a sports reporter for Playmakers, as well as being a technical director for different shows. This summer I was a news intern at KSNT 27 in Topeka, Kansas as well as spending the previous summer in Kansas City at WFDAF-TV FOX 4 news. This year, I will enter my second year with Kansas Athletics as a social media intern, and look forward to growing my skills as a reporter with KUJH.

Jack Yampolsky (he/him)

Multimedia Journalist

I’m a third-year student from Scottsdale, Arizona majoring in Journalism with a focus on Sports, Media, and Society, and minoring in Sport Management. I’ve spent my first two years at KU anchoring and producing videos for Jayhawk Jukebox, and I’m thrilled to be getting a new experience with KUJH! When my time in Lawrence is up, I hope to be working as a sports broadcaster or analyst for the NBA.
