Kansas Athletics had a massively successful weekend the weekend of Nov. 10, as both football and men’s basketball won against ranked opponents; one victory that cemented the weekend as historic and added to the record books for KU was the Big 12 Championship win by Kansas soccer.

Entering into the conference tournament, the Jayhawks were ranked sixth and the underdog in three of the four games they played in the tournament.
Upset after upset, Kansas powered through, defeating the third, second and ultimately number one seed to claim the Big 12 conference title.
With this win, the team earned an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament that begins Nov. 15.
This was something the team worked hard for all season and redshirt freshman goalkeeper Sophie Dawe emphasized this in the post game interviews.
“Yea it’s so surreal seeing the locker room at the beginning of the season and talking about our core values and where we want to be and can be,” Dawe said. “We talked about making the Big 12 tournament, making a dent in it, and we just won so it feels great.”
Junior forward Lexi Watts was also proud of how the team performed in the final game of the conference tournament.
“I’m so happy we just finished the game out and won,” Watts said. “I mean I’m so proud of all the girls on the team, they all worked hard for the full 90 minutes, so couldn’t ask for anything more.”
With it only being his first year, head coach Nate Lie is making a positive impact and etching his name into Kansas soccer history. Lie looks to maintain this start to his legacy as the team begins NCAA tournament play.
The Jayhawk’s season will continue their season as they play against No. 8 St. Louis who acquired their seventh straight Atlantic 10 Championship.
The Billikens will host Kansas on Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
