Curated by Sydney Pursel, a member of the Iowa tribe of Kansas and Nebrasa, this powerful display spans from the 19th century to today. The collection speaks to the resilience, representation, resistance, and relations of Indigenous communities.
“I really wanted to showcase amazing people right here in our community in Lawrence that are making fantastic designs. There are so many great people here doing that work,” Pursel said.
The collection will come to life in a runway show at the Kansas Union this December.
The Spencer Museum is free and open to the public Tuesday-Sunday, where the collection will be on display until January fifth.
