A brand-new softball field at Haskell Indian Nations University is already making a major impact, both on and off the field.

Located across from Haskell Memorial Stadium, the new softball stadium features a fully rebuilt facility, including a modern turf playing surface. Assistant Athletic Director Alta St. Pierre says the transformation was extensive, with everything from the old scoreboard to the electrical system completely replaced.

For players, the turf has changed the game. Head coach Jolona Shield-Dzakic says the consistent surface eliminates bad “hops,” giving players more confidence defensively. Pitcher and infielder Celia Farrow added that the field allows athletes to play more aggressively without worrying about injuries or making an error due to rough field conditions.

The benefits go beyond gameplay, as the upgraded facility is already helping the program attract new talent. St. Pierre notes the field is a strong recruiting tool, while Shield-Dzakic says 14 new players are set to join the team next season, including transfers and freshmen.

For Farrow, the new field represents something bigger than softball. She says it reflects pride in the university and highlights the strength and potential of Native athletes.

With a successful home opener already in the books and more games ahead, the new ballpark signals what many at Haskell believe is the start of a new era for the program. To check out the new stadium in person, here is a link to their game schedule.
