Breakout Lawrence bringing back student night on Thursdays

Starting this semester, individual University of Kansas students can enjoy a special discount every Thursday, paying just one-third of the regular price. Larger student groups, including fraternities and sororities, can take advantage of the student discount any day of the week, offering more flexibility for planning group events.
Justin Zaruba, owner of Breakout Lawrence, recently relocated here from New York City. He also serves as COO of Operations and Financial Turnarounds, a company that runs escape rooms in Orlando, Omaha, and Bloomington. Zaruba said the student discount promotion hadn’t been offered since before the pandemic but is now back to help make the experience more affordable during the school year.
“We hadn’t run that promotion since before COVID,” Zaruba explained. “Now student nights are on Thursdays, and students pay a third of the cost all day. It used to be only from 4 p.m. to close, but now it’s all day long.”
“I didn’t know about the student discount until I saw the sign while walking down Mass Street. “Once my friends and I saw it, we thought, ‘Why not try it? We’re planning to go next Thursday.”
Breakout Lawrence currently offers four uniquely themed escape rooms, each designed to challenge and entertain players of different skill levels. The newest room opened in February and was developed with the help of staff members who also work at KU.
“We haven’t raised prices since before COVID and probably never will,” Zaruba said. “The good thing about escape rooms is they aren’t affected by supply chain issues.”
For KU students looking for a fun and engaging way to spend time with friends, Breakout Lawrence provides an affordable, local option just steps from campus.
