KU adds new parking lots, changes parking zones across campus

Parking on the University of Kansas campus has been a longtime concern for students. This school year, the university added two parking lots and changed parking zone colors in several areas across campus.

One of the new additions is Yellow Lot 89, located just east of Downs Residence Hall. The lot opened at the start of the school year and includes 173 parking spaces for students. The lot is near several popular campus locations, including Capitol Federal Hall, Hoglund Ballpark and the Ambler Student Recreation Fitness Center. The location provides students with another parking option near classes, practices and other campus activities.

Another addition is Red Lot 34, located next to the Price Computing Center on Sunnyside Avenue. The expanded lot now has 209 parking spaces designated for faculty and staff.

The changes to Lot 34 also led to adjustments in nearby parking areas. Lot 62, located just east of the Price Computing Center, converted 55 red parking spaces to yellow. Lots 61 and 62 are now entirely yellow and available for student parking. 

In Lot 34, 29 red parking spaces were converted to yellow, while another 10 red spaces were changed to blue.

The university’s parking changes are intended to provide additional options for students, faculty and staff across campus. However, the impact of the changes will depend on parking demand throughout the school year.
