Increasing temperatures in Lawrence turn campus snow into slush

Just a week into February, the Kansas weather has gotten warmer, melting the snow that has recently accumulated in Lawrence and on campus. Mud, slush, and puddles are making it harder for students to get around campus easily. Students have reported that walking around campus has been taking longer because it is difficult to take the shortcuts without getting dirty.

“I have to leave my house a little bit earlier, but I usually take the same route but it’s a little more slick. I usually take shortcuts but now I can’t do that. I have to stay on my path,” student Ragan Mauldin said.

Students also have said that the slush gets over their shoes and pants while they walk on campus. The wet conditions are not only affecting walkers but also cars, which are getting very dirty with all of the melting snow. While the temperatures continue to increase, the rest of the snow and slush will continue to melt. Anyone who has issues on the sidewalks can contact KU Facilities at (785) 864-4770.
