Early Tuesday afternoon, a demonstration took place organized by the KU Students for Justice in Palestine in advance of an event sponsored by Students Supporting Israel, which brought Israeli reservist soldiers to speak on the KU campus. Protests continued on campus up until the conclusion of the night’s event.

Lawrence was one of numerous stops on the Combat to Campus tour, which brings reserve members of Israel’s military to speak on campuses nationwide.

An organized protest by members of Students for Justice in Palestine began at noon in front of the Jayhawk statue at Strong Hall, a high-traffic location on campus.

“We want peace, we want freedom and liberation for all people including ourselves so the fact that KU is allowing these people, these genociders to come to campus and openly admit and create a message of hate around campus against my people is absolutely unacceptable,” protestor Zaytoon Nabulsi said,

As protests take place on campuses in the United States, Vice President JD Vance has been in Israel this week working to maintain the ceasefire and end the war.

“As the president said, there will be torments along the way. It will be difficult, but I feel very optimistic based on my conversation with our Israeli friends and also with our Gulf-Arab friends that it’s possible that we actually can make peace stick,” said Vance.
