The 77th annual Rock Chalk Revue took to the Lied Center stage this past weekend, showcasing months of student talent, dedication and creativity at the University of Kansas.

Since 1949, Rock Chalk Revue has served as a longstanding campus tradition, bringing together student organizations for a night of original performances, all in support of a local cause. This year, five groups competed to raise money for the Ballard Center. Pi Beta Phi and Beta Theta Pi performed “Beneath the Bloom,” Kappa Alpha Theta and Delta Tau Delta performed “Pepsi Pact,” Sigma Kappa and Delta Upsilon performed “Reporting Live,” Gamma Phi Beta and Sigma Phi Epsilon performed “Wonder Works,” and Kappa Delta performed “Check, Please!”

Olivia Dondzila, group director and a junior member of Kappa Alpha Theta, said being part of Rock Chalk Revue carries special meaning.

“It’s super special to be a part of Rock Chalk Revue just because it has been going on for so many years and so many amazing people have been involved in it,” Dondzila said.

Each group spends months writing, rehearsing and performing original skits and musical numbers. Proceeds from the performances benefit the Elizabeth Ballard Center, which provides affordable early childhood education and needs-based services to help families maintain stability.

Brynn Bertie, theatrical advisor for Rock Chalk Revue, said students’ involvement goes far beyond fundraising.

“Our directors do hands-on work with the Ballard Center, we go and support their after school program and hang out with the kids, have fun,” Bertie said. “We do Trunk or Treat during Halloween and bring them candy. We really try to immerse ourselves and connect with their community.”

Through Rock Chalk Revue, students aren’t just entertaining, they’re making an impact. This year’s show raised more than $80,000, the most in Rock Chalk Revue history.

Kappa Alpha Theta and Delta Tau Delta’s “Pepsi Pact” took home Best Overall Show, wrapping up another year of tradition and community service.

Since the show began, Rock Chalk Revue has raised more than $2.7 million for the community. To learn more about how to get involved, visit rockchalkrevue.com.
