The 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina are underway, and it’s already been a memorable start for Team USA.

One of the biggest storylines came from downhill skiing. At 41-years-old, former gold medalist Lindsey Vonn competed on a torn ACL but crashed early in her medal run, suffering a fractured leg. If this marks the end of her Olympic journey, it may close the book on a legendary career.

Skiing events also brought good news for the Americans. Breezy Johnson captured gold in the women’s downhill with a winning time of 1:36.10, reaching a top speed of 86 miles per hour to secure a massive gold medal for the United States.

In snowboarding, 17-year-old Ollie Martin impressed in the men’s big air, finishing fourth while competing with a broken arm.

On the ice, the United States got the win in the figure skating co-ed team event. The team: Ilia Malinin, Ellie Kam, Alysa Liu, Danny O’Shea, Amber Glenn, Evan Bates and Madison Chock, delivered a standout performance to claim the gold medal.

Meanwhile, the U.S. women’s hockey team dominated pool play with a 4-0 record and heads into the quarterfinals tomorrow, Feb. 13. The men’s team opens pool play against Latvia today.

With the closing ceremonies set for the 22nd, Team USA continues to climb up the medal table.
