Post Fourth Floor Renovations, Kansas Memorial Union Organizers are Looking Forward to the Future

This past spring, the fourth floor of the Kansas Memorial Union was renovated, adding a fireplace and modernizing the floor’s social spaces.

Bailee Myers, marketing director for Kansas Unions, said the overall ambiance of the space has people really excited.

“I think the overall feedback has been overwhelmingly positive,” she said.

While the main construction on the fourth floor is complete, small projects, like the floor’s bathrooms, are still closed for renovation. They are close to being completed and reopened.

On the third floor, a student dining favorite at the Union, Chick-fil-A, is currently closed for renovations but will reopen within the next couple weeks.

 “Every Chick-fil-A on a college campus is required to have renovations every seven or so years, and this year was our seventh,” Myers said.

For KU junior Mason Hadel, not having Chick-fil-A has been a difficult adjustment.

Chick-fil-A is expected to reopen in late September or early October

“It was a total shock to me,” Hadel said.

Besides the construction, the Union has always been a place for brands to reach college students. Just this week, Google Gemini stopped by the union, giving students an opportunity to get free Gemini for a year. Myers says that students can expect more brands to come throughout the school year including an event with the popular soda brand Poppi.

Myers also said that there will be events with Pepsi products and other brands around campus in the coming months.
